what's in a NAME?

...its the theme of our week. What IS in a name? Have you ever thought about why you were named what you were named? I am fascinated by names in the Bible. It seems as though God always defines the name after it is spoken. Sometimes, it's obvious, sometimes you have to look for it. But it's there...

like:

She named the child Ichabod (which means “Where is the glory?”), for she said, “Israel’s glory is gone.” She named him this because the Ark of God had been captured and because her father-in-law and husband were dead.

really? Ichabod...hmmm....that is kind of a sad meaning for his name...poor child was born and got named for something he had no part in!

or:

His brother’s name was Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute.

Jubal...can't say I've heard that name...and to be named for what you could do...interesting!

So many names in Scripture...and yet God gave each of them meaning.

26 people are following God's leading to HIM calling THEIR NAME for this journey...I'm excited to get to know each of them BY NAME and to help guide them as they each pursue HIS NAME.

This next week, our prayer is that each one of us would know God...not just by His name, but for WHO He truly is...for WHAT'S IN HIS NAME is more than our human minds can grasp.
