A Day In The Life

Well, where do I begin? I know you all have busy lives to get to (that's why you're reading this blog) so I'll only talk about today (which is one of the best so far). This morning, we got up at the usual time and had our quiet times. I have this little spot on the roof that overlooks the ocean (aren't you jealous) and the town and it is absolutely beautiful. I usually take a moment to take it all in and each day, it just gets better. After our Ocean Devotion (it's where we worship our Glorious Father and talk about what we got out of the devotionals), we had  breakfast (the food's AMAZING here, by the way) and after breakfast we went to Hannah's Home, which is always cheerful. Right away, we got to work. Some painted rooms, others dug holes.... me? I was directing the VBS skit and blocking (planned movement when in a skit/production) our story and figuring out costumes and learning cue's in Spanish.  We literally had an hour (maybe a half added) to figure everything in the skit out. We started with giving out roles (and costume). After separating the costumes and figuring out their purpose, roles were given and everybody was ready to start working. It didn't take long to get everything blocked, the hard part was everybody learning they're cue's (the entire script was read in Spanish) and remembering what to do. Without much rehearsal, we went over to a schools parade with confidence and performed very smoothly (only one, or maybe two cue's were repeated, but I call that a success for only having an hours worth of practice). Afterwards, the parades began. They were very short parades (only walking 10 feet and walking back) but each class had so many cute children, no one cared. During the parade, a little girl came up and started talking to  Adri, Amanda, and I. Lucky for us, Adri knew enough Spanish to communicate with the girl and figure out a few things about her. I asked her what her name was (one of the only phrases I know how to say in Spanish) and she said Alexadra. She is seven (Ciete. Excuse my spelling. Spell check is no help) and, without knowing it, we were communicating (You'd be surprised at how well you can communicate with a child that doesn't speak your language). She grabbed her jacket and but it around Amanda, which was so sweet. She notice my mom's camera in my hand and asked to take a picture. I'm not going to say no to a seven year old, so of course I let her. Before I knew it, she was going around taking pictures of random people (I assumed she knew them, but also pictures of  people on our team). She had it all figured out, she could turn on and off the camera, take a clear picture and look at it (it took a while for my mom to figure that out). She would always gesture for everyone around to get inside the picture and it was so cute, I would box her up and send her home. I swear, one day that little girl will be a photographer (thanks to me). Alexandra would speak to me in Spanish and I wouldn't know what to say (I don't speak Spanish) and I would think "Your'e so cute, I just can't understand what your'e saying (a quote from Nemo, look it up). Luckily we had our translators (they are all awesome, by the way) and one time (with translation) Alexadra asked me if I was leaving now because she wanted me to stay. That just about made me  melt. Right then, I was determined to make sure this little girl was happy with my company and that she knew that I was her friend. So I followed her around (with my camera) and gave her hugs when she hugged me, and took pictures when she asked for them, and loved her like she was my own. We went inside a building and someone offered a tour of where the children at Hannah's Home lived before they lived there. Well, I wanted to see it, so I did. I told Alexadra "one second" and went on the tour. When I came back, I didn't see her. Then, I saw her leaving with her mom. She didn't see me, and she left. That kind of made me sad because just because I was making her feel special, doesn't mean she wasn't making me feel special. That little girl made me feel just as loved as I did her. I felt like we had a relationship and I will never forget that, ever (and I will always have those pictures on my camera). That was one of the biggest things today. The other was when we went to Hannah's Home and we played hide-and-go-seek with all the kids. When  we left, all of the children came and hugged us and gave us kisses and said "Ciao!". Just that feeling of love from kids that you barely know is bigger than life and you can't imagine it unless you get yourself down here and see for yourself!!!

  3. Bay, I smiled all the way through your post! It reminds me of Ephesians 5. "Watch what God does, and then you do it! Mostly He loves.... not to get something from us but to give everything of Himself to us. Love like that!" I'm so proud of you for directing the skit and using all of your many gifts for Jesus! Keep loving on those kids and making Jesus famous!! Love you bunches! Annie
